Bambi101 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) How do y'all Bonnie McKee pundits feel about the 2022 VHS order of the Epic songs? Slay Somebody's Gonna Get Hurt American Girl Sleepwalker Forever 21 Hot City I Wanna Fucking Call You Rewind Your Heart Everything But You Electric Heaven I can stomach Slay as the album opener; Sleepwalker as track 4 followed by Forever 21 also isn't that controversial to me as that's the exact same order in which she performed these live at a few events, but giving EBY the penultimate slot doesn't sit well with me especially given how close in sound it is to American Girl (I'd place EBY somewhere at the beginning in close proximity to American Girl). SGGH as track 2 seems SO random. Electric Heaven *could* work as the album closer depending on the reworked version's production/sound. For some reason, I personally wouldn't choose to end the album with a dramatic upbeat song, but that could be remedied by adding Stars in Your Heart after it. I wonder if she ordered the songs this way because the visuals follow a cohesive storyline/plot and the actual album tracklist will differ... she's definitely including Wild Card and possibly a few other songs we might've not heard before (fingers crossed for a reworked Worst in Me, reproduced Jenny, and updated Sexin' U). I've been trying to find her Essentials mixtape in lossless (or even at the very least the TRACKLIST) and her song Bitch Like Me in lossless and I've dm'ed her about it, she always says she's going to release them herself and just never does. Truly a student of the school of Bonnie McKee 1 1 Quote

zaynphallic Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Now that we finally have the INCREDIBLE "Forever 21", I think I finally finalized my tracklist and album art (unless "Right Now" leaks which is clearly never gonna happen). Don't Get Mad, Get Famous (Intro) S.L.A.Y. American Girl Forever 21 Hot City Rewind Your Heart Hit Me Up Everything But You I Wanna Fucking Call You Electric Heaven Waking Up Diagonal Jenny's Got a Boyfriend Last Call Lover Somebody's Gonna Get Hurt Listening all the way through it's just all killer, no filler. Every track is a masterpiece. This really could have been the album of the 2010's. 3 Quote

I'll never forget that iconic summer in 2013!!! Do you guys think it's hard to go on living (as a musician) knowing you created one of the finest pop records of all time brimming with gigantic hits (Forever 21, Hot City, Everything But You), yet you never got to have your Katy Perry moment? Especially when you perservered through all the initial setbacks, obstacles, failures, put in the hard work and all that. Bonnie had the exact same trajectory as Katy, Gaga, and Lana (i.e. got signed at a young age, put out a commercial flop, had her second album shelved and subsequently got dropped from the label)--it's just that Katy/Gaga/Lana managed to bounce back before they reached their mid 20s whereas Bonnie was past the age when pop girls are most marketable (we love an ageist industry) and due to writing songs for Katy/Kesha the public came to associate quote unquote Bonnie's style with those girls. I still think that even if she released Roar in 2014 it would've flopped... the public just wasn't willing to embrace another girl serving pure pop, especially one that didn't get to establish herself before turning 30 and close-minded people judged her harshly for that (remember all those comments under the American Girl music video talking about how she's desperate/should act her age etc??). Looking back, it makes me feel so sad and devastated for her. This is something I’ve thought about as well, and I feel like it’s one of the biggest reasons Bonnie is so hesitant to release the Epic album. It’s so clear just by listening to the Epic tracks that she had a vision for how this album would sound. It’s insanely cohesive. And considering how much she loves traditional album roll outs, I’m sure we would’ve gotten tons of promo performances, music videos, photo shoots, etc. The potential was there for an amazing pop album and era, and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive LA Reid or Epic for screwing Bonnie over. I mean, it sucks for us as fans to miss out on all of that, but imagine how Bonnie feels? I’m sure it has to sting every time she thinks about it. And don’t get me wrong, I’m disappointed in how Bonnie has been leading us on over the years in regards to releasing the album, but I do have a lot of sympathy for her as well. 6 Quote
