After a trippy seven-year ride, the group announced today that they’re going their separate ways. The rave-rappers announced their breakup in an interview with Exclaim!, sharing that they’ll officially part in September 2017. “Die Antwoord dies on that day,” lead singer Ninja said. “It’s all over. I feel beautiful about it. I’m not scared of the end. I’m a Ninja. I’m not scared of death.” Before splitting, the pair will present an exhibition at Cape Town’s Museum of Contemporary Modern Art Africa and release a movie that will take a look back at their career. “There’s this movie we’re making called South African Ninja, that we’ve been working on forever—literally like ten years—and we’ve just been finishing it off now,” Ninja says. “Everything in the film is fictitious, like a regular movie, but it’s hard and raw, and everything has some parallel to our lives, so it’s got a surreal connection to everything.” On top of the announcement, the pair also dropped a new track, “Fat Faded Fuck Face,” which you can listen to below. Even though the group made some controversial choices, their music was consistently boundary pushing, sometimes aggressive, but never boring. The industry will be a lot, well, quieter without them.
