TLC is facing growing criticism over the decision to air “My Husband’s Not Gay,” a one-hour special slated to air on Jan. 11, which follows a group of Mormon men who, according to the network’s description, “are happily married and attracted to their wives, but they are also attracted to other men. They refer to it as Same Sex Attraction… not gay, SSA.”

A Change.org petition protesting the special has amassed over 71,000 signatures urging TLC to cancel the broadcast. Josh Sanders, a gay Christian man, began the petition because he believes the show “promotes the false and dangerous idea that gay people can and should choose to be straight in order to be part of their faith communities… The men featured in this show deserve to be shown compassion and acceptance. Perhaps even more importantly, TV viewers need to know the horrific consequences of trying to change who you are. Instead, TLC is presenting victims’ lives as entertainment, while sending the message that being gay is something that can and ought to be changed, or that you should reject your sexual orientation by marrying someone of the opposite sex. This message is harmful to both LGBT people and communities of faith, and I call upon TLC to stop spreading such dangerous misinformation by cancelling ‘My Husband’s Not Gay’ immediately.”

GLAAD has also condemned the special. “This show is downright irresponsible,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement. “No one can change who they love, and, more importantly, no one should have to. By investing in this dangerous programming, TLC is putting countless young LGBT people in harm’s way.”

TLC issued the following statement Tuesday morning: “TLC has long shared compelling stories about real people and different ways of life, without judgment. The individuals featured in this one-hour special reveal the decisions they have made, and speak only for themselves.”

Again, people are getting confused between people representing ideas and people supporting ideas. :morning: I think the special sounds interesting and I would definitely watch it, but that doesn't mean I agree with anything that's happening on it.

If they like men and women both, they're bisexual. Who gives two shits, honestly? lmao  :rofl:I'm gonna watch this just to see what it's about but honestly, why does it need to happen?

I think the idea is that they're suppressing their bisexuality because of their religion. But you have a point, it's pretty weird that people are referring to them as "gay" when they're saying that they're still attracted to women. It's not very respectful of their choices. :magic:

I don't think TLC is wrong to show this. I obviously don't agree with the homophobic aspect of it, but TLC always shows people from different walks of life. On Here Comes Honey Boo Boo they had 'Uncle Poodle' who is gay, they showed him and his boyfriend together, holding hands, kissing etc. and before the show got cancelled, were planning on documenting their engagement & Georgia's legalization of same sex marriage. I think it'll be a great educational tool to see how and why people are like this and what lead them to choose religion over attraction.

Agreed, although it's not just TLC. A lot of the blogs posting about this are LGBT-oriented blogs and they're still calling all the guys "gay". If you're gonna be friendly and accepting to the gay community, it has to be a constant thing you do all the time, not just a sometimes thing you do to those people who fit into your version of sexual orientations.

I don't know, I just feel like whoever's calling them gay (the makers of the documentary, whoever else) aren't educated enough about the subject of sexuality if they call someone who is attracted to two genders just "gay." I'm gonna watch it anyway if I remember, just to see what it's about  :vacuum:
