I don't think TLC is wrong to show this. I obviously don't agree with the homophobic aspect of it, but TLC always shows people from different walks of life. On Here Comes Honey Boo Boo they had 'Uncle Poodle' who is gay, they showed him and his boyfriend together, holding hands, kissing etc. and before the show got cancelled, were planning on documenting their engagement & Georgia's legalization of same sex marriage. I think it'll be a great educational tool to see how and why people are like this and what lead them to choose religion over attraction.
