In the first occurrence of its kind, an announcement today confirmed that a holographic depiction of the late Whitney Houston is set to travel the world on a concert tour throughout 2016. Announced by Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager of her estate, and Hologram USA, who patents the holographic technology in America, the concert will follow in the tradition of other legendary deceased singers who have made appearances from beyond the grave through the use of the groundbreaking technology, including Michael Jackson, 2Pac and Frank Sinatra. Houston stated that the hologram will be a “reinvention of one the most celebrated female artists in history” and will “continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come”. The announcement comes just days after Hologram USA announced that a show featuring a hologram of renowned jazz singer Billie Holiday will open later this year at the iconic Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Holiday passed in 1959 after liver and heart disease brought on from excessive alcohol and drug consumption, while Houston, herself, drowned in 2012 following habitual cocaine use. What do you think? The artist formally known as Ke$ha has proven once again her dedication to the LGBT community, after officiating yet another same-sex wedding – the second after a somewhat dicey gay marriage back in 2012 between Monique Morrison and Gretchen Helt, which occurred when same-sex marriage was still illegal in the state of California. This time around, Kesha had a personal connection with the couple – with one of the grooms, Vittorio Masecchia, acting as her hairstylist for the past few years, and his partner Felipe Noqueira being a close friend by association. Kesha posted a picture of herself with the couple on Instagram on Wednesday (Sept. 9), with the caption “All u need is love.” This was followed by an entire series of photographs from Masecchia and Noqueira later in the day, which included depictions of their backyard, covered in fairy lights and tall candles and scattered with rose petals to celebrate the big day. Through Instagram, the couple also revealed that they had forsaken the traditional wedding ring look for a more modern twist, choosing to use blue ring pops as their official rings. Kesha’s been trying to keep herself busy lately while she struggles through a lawsuit with long-time producer and business partner Dr. Luke. After gay marriage was legalized all over the country in June, Kesha tweeted, “omg lets get married. I’m ordained. anyone? I’m so happy. I’m crying.” Meanwhile, the pop star was recently confirmed to be appearing on the next season of hit TV show Jane The Virgin. In her first major acting gig, the singer is set to have a recurring role as the next-door-neighbour of Jane, who doubles as a rockstar. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Selena Gomez’s new single ‘Same Old Love’ has premiered online - and it may not be what you’d expect from the 23 year old ex-Disney starlet. Taking another high-heeled step away from her Wizards of Waverley Place past with the sultry, steamy ‘Good For You’, Selena initially primed us for a minimalist, down-tempo record full of R&B jams - a far cry from what we’re hearing with sophomore single ‘Same Old Love’. Backed by a total bop of a piano riff and some jazzy finger snapping, Selena chants an anthemic chorus of, “I’m so sick of that same old love/My body’s had enough/Oooh/That same old love/Oooh/That same old love”. What’s missing in the track is a solid sense of artistic direction and identity. ‘Same Old Love’ was released from Gomez’s upcoming album Revival, which features a title presumably alluding to her physical and musical rebirth after the release of hit album Stars Dance under Disney-owned Hollywood Records back in 2013. But our second taste of the album sounds more like a song we’d hear from co-writer Charli XCX, who dominates the track with some heavy background vocals during the chorus and her signature ‘1960s jazz production meets Kelly Clarkson kiss off lyrics” style. What’s worse is that the song, which Selena recently said “represents a different kind of identity with love”, wasn’t even originally written by or for the singer. Just days after XCX confirmed that she had penned several songs for Rihanna’s long-delayed upcoming eighth studio album, fans spotted a tweet from the Barbadian singer dating from over a year ago in July 2014, quoting a line from the song. While it’s not uncommon for songs to be shopped around to several artists before finding a home - after all, Rihanna’s own ‘Umbrella’ was once recorded by Britney Spears - the fact that the track was originally meant for R&B singer RiRi poses a problem for Selena. After borrowing a Lana Del Rey style sound for ‘Good For You’ and appropriating Rih’s Carribean influenced style for ‘Same Old Love’, we have absolutely no idea what Revival will ultimately sound like - or if Selena has any actual plans whatsoever for her upcoming second solo album.
